I struggle with gentrification being so vilified - I'm a renter myself, and being priced out of a neighborhood is a risk of renting. People being priced out is bad, but I've always felt it's on the city to approve new housing, or on the renter to figure out how to buy. I'm also _super_ biased - I tend to be the gentrifier, not the gentrified, and nicer restaurants and businesses opening up has always struck me as a good thing.

This is the first thing I've read that's convincingly explained a big and real evil of gentrification. If you're like me and blow off gentrification as an unfairly maligned phenomenon, find time to read through this.
