I found the author’s view of deeply belonging as frightening interesting. I certainly get what she means, how exclusionary it can become, how possibly violent. I also like her idea of having to have a sense of history, it’s importance in one’s life. I’ve always felt that, not so much with an ancestral identity but more within my family and friends. History is comforting, a shared sense of knowing a familiar time, place, people - adds a richness to my relationships that I treasure. Of course I also loved the quote that skrt listed below. Yes, thank God for writers and books!

That definition of camp is new and interesting to me. I always think more of “deliberately exaggerated” and “male effeminate.” Both low-brow and sophisticated.
