I loved this piece. One of my favorite memories of being a mother was reading aloud each night to my kids. We would gather in my bed and the magic hour would unfold. We usually choose the Caldecott winners and I enjoyed the stories as much as they did. It was such a great way to wind down the energy of the day. It could even be used as a form of punishment - no reading tonight if they misbehaved. Only I was punishing myself too!

Reading is a secret staircase that leads to the open air of intellectual escape.
