This article has me very interested in reading a book by Flynn. She sounds like she has a fascinating mind. Any suggestions on the best book to read?

Sharp Objects. For sure. It’s her debut and it’s amazing. I’m going to give it to Jeff to give to you. I think crystal might read it too. I can’t stop thinking about it. (Also, right now I’m reading Lolita by Nabokov. What a trip!)

Thanks so much Bill, can’t wait to dive in! I read part of Lolita on line and it was really intriguing. Nabokov is revered by many, so a must to see if it’s warranted.

One of my new fav authors. I read Sharp Objects this past week. Absolutely loved it. Took me by surprise, big time. Maybe one of my top fiction books of the year. I read the last third of the book in one epic late night session. The rhythm is incredible, reminiscent of the very final scene in the old HBO series Six Feet Under. Thirty pages in a row of Holy F*****g Shit Oh My God!

Also, Widows rocked. Basically, Flynn’s on fire. I hope she keeps going.

Still, it takes an open mind to compare her with someone like Zadie Smith or Philip Roth; Flynn says that people at parties and other passive-aggressive spaces sometimes let her know that they “don’t normally read this kind of book,” which she takes in stride. She cares more about the work than the labels on the work.

I used to be one of those people, but sci fi knocked the literary snobbery out of me and I’ve never been a happier reader.
